Today's question is from Tami Smith, Searchologist – an expert in helping entrepreneurs bring qualified visitors to their websites. With keyword research and competitive analysis, Tami helps position small businesses for success. Her question:
"While I know how to set and achieve sales goals technically, it doesn't seem to translate into action."
Tami goes on: "Knowing isn't the same as doing. I think it is an emotional block or something. I don't make sales calls. I have leads and I don't follow up. It seems crazy because I love the work I do and my clients rave about the value they get. What is holding me back? "
Christopher Flett, founder of Ghost CEO and Power Chicks-approved coach answers:
"It likely isn't the action, but the strategy, that is making this difficult. Remember that building the business and doing the work are related, but not the same.
"The first step is to get clear on what you are trying to build, what you want it to look like when you are done, and making a list of what needs to be done (but not necessarily by you). As the owner of a company, the responsibility lies with you to ensure the work gets done, but not necessarily to do all the work yourself.
"Truth be told, 80% of what an entrepreneur does really should be done through a system, or by someone else. Consider who you can chat with about best practices and see if something they suggest will work for you. You can be in business for yourself, but you don't need to be by yourself.
"Get curious, ask lots of people what they do, and figure out a model that empowers you rather than one that holds you back."
