Last night I had the pleasure of attending a Power Chick’s workshop led by Tami Smith of Targeted Traffic Strategies. It was titled Attracting Qualified Visitors to your Website.
Let me start by saying I totally dig being in the presence of someone who possesses deep knowledge on a topic. And when that deep knowledge is combined with a passion to help others succeed, it becomes (dare I say) groooovy.
Tami Smith is that kind of person. She has a depth of knowledge about SEO and particularly how Google works that is incredibly impressive. However, what really shines through when spending any amount of time with her is that she aims to put her knowledge to use to benefit entrepreneurs, especially solopreneurs.
Now, you might think a workshop about SEO would be full of murky technical terms and there’d be a strong chance you’d leave more confused than when you arrived. Not the case here. Tami focuses on using your authentic voice in your online content to raise your organic search rankings. Yes, there are some technical things to learn, like keyword research, understanding some of the tools out there, and getting your head around algorithms and how it all works…though you don’t even need to have a grasp on the technical specifics in order to put SEO tactics to work for you.
A lot of the workshop focused on identifying the needs/pain of our ideal customers. Along with that, we spent time reflecting on what we want to be known for…which goes deeper than simply what it is we “do”. Taking those two ideas, she expanded into taking time to hone our online voice and ways to let that shine. Tami stressed the importance of creating original content (woohoo…a woman after my own heart!) and how, if you endeavor to become an authority in your niche by posting original keyword-rich content, you will begin to see SEO success.
My two favorite things Tami said were “Content is king; context is queen” and about being an entrepreneur “It’s a great day to change the world." Tweet this tidbit! Aligning SEO tactics with your authentic passion for changing the world is what I walked away from last night understanding. Oh, and that I should keep on keepin’ on with letting my unique voice shine in my content. I am soooo looking forward to other workshops and webinars she will offer down the road!
